The Department of Colorectal Surgery is based in the Churchill and John Radcliffe Hospitals in Oxford and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.
Our elective (planned surgery) is based at the Churchill Hospital where we have a dedicated colorectal ward and specialist “state of the art” operating theatres. We are well supported by other allied specialties including radiology, nutrition, stoma nursing and intensive care. We perform a significant proportion of our day case surgery (patients who do not need to stay overnight) at the Horton Hospital in Banbury both for the local population and also other patients from throughout Oxfordshire through the dedicated day surgery unit there.
At the John Radcliffe Hospital, we provide emergency on call cover for General Surgery. Almost uniquely in the United Kingdom, there is a colorectal surgeon available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for specialist colorectal problems that present as an emergency.
Through such a service, we hope to optimise outcomes for emergency and elective patients throughout Oxfordshire and our referral base beyond.
